A building formerly occupied by Lidl is set to reopen as a new gym.

The site in Hening Avenue on the Ravenswood estate has been vacant since the supermarket chain moved to Crane Boulevard in December.

A new PureGym will now be opening on March 24, joining the fitness chain's other site in the Ipswich Buttermarket.

It will be open 24/7 and will feature state-of-the-art gym kit, a variety of fitness classes and a no contract membership.

Personal trainers will also be available, alongside changing rooms and showers.

The former Lidl was one of the company's smallest shops in the country, with the site closing on November 30 and reopening in Crane Boulevard on December 1.

A PureGym spokesman said: "We are delighted to be expanding our provision of flexible, affordable fitness in Ipswich and opening a second gym on March 24.

"The gym will be a fantastic facility for the people of Ipswich and the surrounding communities, helping support their physical and mental wellbeing through PureGym’s flagship low cost, no contract memberships."

PureGym will officially open its doors at 12pm on March 24.
