Concerns have been raised about the transportation of boats through a village near Ipswich after traffic issues earlier this year when a load became stuck.

The boats are set to go through Sproughton on Saturday, June 10, and Thursday, June 15.

The previous incident in February caused delays.

Suffolk County Councillor Christopher Hudson has spoken of his frustration about the issue of moving boats through Sproughton and called it the "relaunch of Titanic mark two".

He said: "Why are we allowing a relaunch of the Titanic?

"As the county councillor for the area, my main concern is the safety of the public, their health and wellbeing.

"Why is it so dangerous? If the boat gets stuck again, how do we get police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency services to drive through?

"It could be extremely dangerous for the residents."

Cllr Hudson added that Sproughton streets are not big enough to be used to move big boats.

Sproughton is known for having similar issues and, due to its close proximity to the A14, is often included in routes for abnormal loads being escorted through the county.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: "We appreciate such large loads can cause short-term inconvenience to residents and motorists, but sometimes when road works are also taking place, there are no alternative diversions.

"We always work with other agencies to ensure the safety of those living along the route, and we’d ask motorists to remain patient whilst the load is moving through Sproughton, and they should expect some short-term delays."

The company responsible for the movement of the boats, Abbey Transport Ltd, was approached for a comment.
