An inquest has opened into the death of an Ipswich man who died after being stabbed in a village near Woodbridge.
Suffolk Coroner's Court opened the inquest into the death of Richard Hunt, 37, who died outside an address in Sutton Heath, near Woodbridge.
Detective Inspector Daniel Connick spoke before the court. He said that police were called at 8.59pm on the night of Sunday, October 8.
Officers arrived at the scene within 15 minutes and discovered Mr Hunt outside the house. They were swiftly joined by ambulance crews and an air ambulance.
However, despite their best efforts, Mr Hunt died at the scene.
Detective Inspector Connick told the court that a Home Office postmortem was carried out on Monday, and has given a provisional cause of death as stab wounds to the heart and left lung.
On Tuesday, Jay Cotterill, 42, and of Ipswich Avenue, in Sutton Heath, was charged with the murder of Mr Hunt.
He has also been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in connection with an assault on a woman which is also said to have happened on Sunday night.
Cotterill appeared before Suffolk Magistrates Court and Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday, but has not yet entered a plea.
A provisional trial date has been set for next year.
Mr Hunt's inquest was then adjourned, pending the criminal investigation.
