One lane was shut on the A14 near Ipswich due to an incident.
A lane closure was put in place at about 1pm on Wednesday on the westbound carriageway, near to junction 53, according to Suffolk police.
A spokesman said it was a National Highways-related issue.
UPDATE: The A14 is to close for emergency repairs
The AA Traffic Map showed there was heavy traffic in the area, with queues stretching beyond the Copdock Interchange.
National Highways has been approached for comment.
