An Ipswich man has been told by magistrates to pay out more than £500 after he failed to provide a valid ticket on a train.
Sylla Badara, of Wykes Bishop Street in the Suffolk town, appeared before Barkingside Magistrates' Court in London on March 5.
The 36-year-old was charged with failing or refusing to hand over a valid railway ticket for inspection.
This was in relation to a journey from the railway stations in Stratford in east London and Ipswich on August 7 last year, according to a court listing.
The case was dealt with through the single justice procedure, which deals with more minor offences that are not heard before a crown court.
Badara was ordered to pay Greater Anglia, the railway operator that runs the services between Ipswich and London, a sum of £49 in compensation for the fare.
He was also handed a fine of £220, costs of £175 and a victim surcharge of £88.
This means the total amount Badara was ordered to pay out by magistrates was £532.
