Tom Hunt and Suella Braverman visit Ipswich Salvation Army

On Tuesday, Suella Braverman came to town to visit Tom Hunt as the pair continued their campaign trail before the general election on July 4. 

They visited the Salvation Army's Priory Centre in Queen's Way and met with commanding officer Captain Andrew Jarrold and community manager, Shamaila Waddle.

They continued to meet other residents at the Queen's Way shopping parade and Broke Hall estate.

A Salvation Army spokesperson said: “At the Salvation Army we’re accustomed to surprise visits from candidates as they campaign to be elected.

"As a politically neutral organisation, we are happy to show candidates from any political party the work we do with the most vulnerable people in our communities, and importantly, give a voice to the people we support every day.”

Meanwhile, the former Home Secretary and Conservative candidate for Fareham and Waterlooville, took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that she had a fantastic time meeting Mr Hunt and the Ipswich Conservatives team. 

She added: "Lost count of the number of people who have been helped by Tom, met Tom or were grateful to Tom for his courageous and steadfast work to stop the boats and cut migration."

Mr Hunt thanked Mrs Braverman for her visit to the town. 

The Conservative candidate is defending the majority of 5,479 votes he won from Labour's Sandy Martin in the 2019 poll.

This is the biggest margin the Conservatives have won by since the end of the Second World War. 

Labour's Jack Abbott, James Sandbach of the Liberal Democrats, Green Adria Pittock, Reform's Tony Gloud, Freddie Sofar of the Communist Party and Terence Charles of the Heritage Party are all hoping to take the seat in the poll next week.
