A tech entrepreneur and frequent flier is developing a mobile app to help delayed passengers to claim compensation quickly.

Santina Capreis of Ipswich is chief executive of TravelTech is working on a product to enable flight travellers to claim for delayed travel and lost baggage in 40 seconds.

Her company has completed the first stage of its capital fundraising bid to develop the product - or series A funding - with a valuation of £10m.

The funding will go towards its development and other growth related activities and the app is due to be launched later this year.

The company has recently completed series A funding with a post money valuation of £10 million.  The funding will be put into development and growth-related activities, with the app set to be launched later this year.

“I have always been an avid flyer, and like many I often experience delays," said Santina.

"It occurred to me how hard it was to claim the compensation that is owed for these delays, in doing research I found that less than 1% of all delayed passengers claimed the compensation, which is their statutory right, so TravelTech was born and I believe the opportunity is huge.

“Over the next five years TravelTech aims to increase the compensation received by travellers.

"The opportunity for TravelTech is the genuine need for what we do and there is currently no company doing what we are doing here in the UK.”

More than 6 million people take a flight each day with more than two million experiencing delays, said TravelTech.

However, there is currently around £8.2bn worth of unclaimed travel claims in the UK alone.

TravelTech - which plans to automate the claims process - believes that travellers find the compensation process frustrated and long-winded and never make a claim.
