A new shop looks set to open at Ipswich railway station after an alcohol licence was submitted to the borough council.

The East of England Co-op has applied for a new premises licence at the railway station, in Burrell Road in the Suffolk town.

The shop looks set to open in unit 14 at the station.

The application is for the supply of alcohol off the premises.

Should the application be approved, the shop would be able to sell alcohol to customers between 6am and 11pm on Monday to Saturday, and from 7am to 10pm on a Sunday.

The Co-op will join the existing shops and cafes at the station, including Costa Coffee, Starbucks, WH Smith, Greggs and Photo-Me.

Greater Anglia, which runs the station, has been approached for comment.

Representations in relation to the application must be made in writing with a closing date of July 30.
