More than 1,000 runners will take to the streets of Ipswich later this month as the popular Twilight 10k event returns to the town.

The race, which will take place on the evening of Friday, July 26, will start at Portman Road and follow a winding route through town past landmarks such as the Corn Exchange and Town Hall.

The Twilight 5k event took place in the town earlier this year and saw elite runners from across the UK compete for the best times.

Below is a list of expected road and bus route closures for the 10k, with disruption expected to last from 6.30pm to 10pm.

Roads affected:

Museum Street, Franciscan Street, Tacket Street, Russel Road, Lower Brooke, Sir Alf Ramsey Way, King Street, Civic Drive, Chalon Street.

A spokesman for Suffolk Highways said Orwell Place, Upper Orwell Street, Old Foundry Road, Carr Street, Tavern Street, Westgate Street, Providence Street and Tower Ramparts will also likely be affected.

They also say Constantine Road, Russell Road, Chancery Road and West End Road will be affected and drivers should expect delays across Ipswich.

Bus route disruption:

Service 800 Park and Ride from London Road will take a diversion via Handford Road.

Service 800 Park and Ride from Martlesham will take a diversion via Civic Drive and right on to Handford Road.

Service 64 from Aldeburgh will take a diversion via via Grimwade Street, Fore Street, Key Street, College Street, Star Lane and Turret Lane.

Service 66 from Martlesham will take a diversion via Grimwade Street and Fore Street.

Service 66 from Rail Station  will also take a diversion via Burrell Road.

Services 75 and 77 from Felixstowe will take a diversion via Grimwade Street.

Services 75 and 77 from OCM will take a diversion via Turret Lane and Star Lane.

Service 88 from Stowmarket will take a diversion route via Norwich Road.

Drivers and public transport users have been advised to avoid the area during the event and find alternative routes.
