As Wimbledon nears its end, tennis clubs in and around Ipswich are reporting seeing a rise in numbers coming to them.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), who look after local tennis clubs in the UK, believes that June and July are the time for "Wimbledon Warriors".

These are typically they say young men who play the sport only 15 times a year, but during Wimbledon are regularly active.

A lot of them come to the courts to play tennis with their friends.

Foxes Tennis Club in Ipswich, has noticed this trend every year. They operate two courts in the southern part of the town.

Their chairman George Timan said: "Peak Wimbledon season rolls in with probably the best weather we see here, so many people decide that they can spend their summer playing tennis.

"As a trend every year at this time we have lines of people asking to book a court and we have to turn them away.

"We see a lot of, especially young men, come take up tennis and play casually during this season."

However, in Sproughton, the tennis club claims they have seen a huge rise in older men and women taking up the sport this summer.

Ipswich-based tennis coach Joe Price believes that even the looming summer break adds to the growing interest in the sport.

He said: "With the summer break just around the corner, and tennis on TV we see many children and their parents thinking about what they might do.

"Wimbledon sends them our way and keeps the sport popular in the minds of everyone."
