A trio of Suffolk sports stars will represent Team GB at the upcoming summer Olympics in the hope of bringing home gold.

The Paris Olympics begins on Friday as competitors from around the world compete to be the best in a variety of sports.

Suffolk will have its own representation, with three athletes from different areas of the county competing in the French capital.

Hannah French - Hockey

Hannah French, formerly Hannah Martin, grew up in Ipswich, attending Ipswich School between 1998 and 2013.

The star is a member of the successful Team GB Hockey Women's team, and has previously won gold at the Commonwealth Games back in 2022, and picked up a bronze medal at the last Olympics which were held in Tokyo.

The Team GB Women's Hockey team play their first match on Sunday against Spain, before facing Australia a day later and South Africa on Wednesday, July 31. They will also face the United States and Argentina to qualify further in the tournament.

Callum Wilkinson - Athletics: 20km Race Walk

Callum Wilkinson, 27 from Moulton, near Newmarket, will compete in the 20km race walk for Team GB. He was selected two weeks ago for the Olympic team after breaking the national record for the 10,000m race walk.

When being picked, he said: "Huge thanks to those who have believed in me every step of the way. I'm determined to enjoy every minute of the experience."

The 2016 World Junior Champion is currently the UK's number one in the sport, and he will be hoping to bring home gold.

He will compete in the final of the race walk on Thursday, August 1.

Charley Davison - Boxing: Women's bantamweight 54kg

Charley Davison, 30 from Lowestoft, is going to compete in her second Olympics for Team GB in the women's bantamweight boxing.

She previously competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, losing her second bout against Yuan Chang.

The Suffolk star is one of 13 men and women selected by GB Boxing to compete at the Olympics.

The mother-of-three will compete in the Women's 54kg boxing between Saturday and Thursday, August 8.
