A village is without water after a main was damaged during network checks, causing supply issues.
Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, is without water after Anglian Water damaged a main while carrying out checks on Tuesday.
Witnesses described the smell of gas as they left their house on Tuesday morning.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that some customers in Great Blakenham may be experiencing low water pressures or no water at all today. This is because of a burst water main on Gipping Road.
"Due to multiple utilities being present, and the location on an industrial estate, this is a complicated repair – but our engineers are working hard to fix things as quickly as they can.
“We’ve delivered bottled water to homes in the area, and our team is now using tankers to get people’s taps flowing again while we finish the repair.
"In order to keep our people and other road users safe while we work, we have closed Gipping Road. We’d like to thank our customers in Great Blakenham for bearing with us while we get things back to normal.”
The incident causes further disruption to the village as Gipping Road was closed last week due to a fire at the Sackers recycling centre.
