Four "selfless" members of the public who rushed into action to try to save a teenager stabbed in Ipswich town centre have been recognised for their compassion and quick reaction.
Raymond James Quigley, 18, was stabbed to death in a gang related attack on January 17 2023 in broad daylight on Westgate Street.
Two 19-year-olds, Alife Hammett and Joshua Howell, were both convicted of his murder in March this year and given minimum custodial terms of 24 years and 20 years respectively.
Judge Martyn Levett invited the four members of the public who tried to save Mr Quigley into Ipswich Crown Court and thanked them.
He said: “It is crucial to highlight and commend these instances of selflessness to inspire others and to recognise those persons who make a difference in times of crisis.
“These acts showcase the best of humanity and remind us of the power of compassion and selflessness.
“I would like to personally thank Lasharne Beaton and Jordane Challenger for their attempts at medical aid before the paramedics arrived.”
Judge Levett added: “Such remarkable acts of public-spirited lifesaving efforts made by them by springing into action from the Starbuck’s café opposite Cards Direct without a moment's hesitation, you jumped into action with commendable speed which serves as a testament to the importance of being prepared and willing to help others in need.”
He also thanked Lesley Ransome for her prompt action calling 999 and for guiding to emergency services to the location.
A fourth member of the public thanked did not wish to be named.
Before concluding the ceremony, Judge Levett also commended Anita Ford, the sales assistant who was the last person to assist Mr Quigley before he died.
