A decorated salver presented to legendary former Ipswich Town manager Sir Alf Ramsey to commemorate his 100th game in charge for England has been sold at auction.
The piece of history went under the hammer on the sports memorabilia auction site, Graham Budd, and was estimated to sell between £6,000 and £8,000.
At the auction last week the salver fetched £6,500.
David Convery, head of sporting memorabilia at Graham Budd Auctions said: “Alf Ramsey will always be known as the man who led England to World Cup victory in 1966, but his career success goes far beyond that, which is why we saw so much interest in his silver salver. It really was a chance to own a piece of football history."
Sir Alf was the manager of Ipswich Town for eight years, from 1955 to 1963, taking the Tractor Boys from the third division to the top flight title in 1962.
He left the Blues, taking up the England job in 1963.
England would go on to win the World Cup in 1966 - making Sir Alf the only manager of the men's team to win a major trophy.
