Missing bollards will be replaced to stop cars mounting a footpath as a cut through to town.

Safety concerns were raised as drivers were mounting the pavement between Sirdar Road and Surrey Road which is near to the gate of a nearby primary school.

In addition, it was causing damage to the pavements.

From Surrey Road, motorists can access London Road, and from Sirdar Road, vehicles can join Bramford Road.

Suffolk County Council has now confirmed it will replace the bollard after this paper reported the concerns.

A spokesperson for them said: "We have listened to the concerns raised regarding the missing bollards and arranged for them to be replaced. A timeframe is currently unknown; however, they will be in place within the next three months.

"In the meantime, any reports of illegal driving should be reported directly to Suffolk Police."

Cllr KCllr Kreidewolf had pushed for this work to take place.  (Image: Charlotte Bond) Ipswich Borough Councillor for the area Colin Kreidewolf had pushed for Suffolk Highways to act on the missing bollard on the pavements.

On hearing that the council is set to replace the bollard he said: "I am pleased that SCC has reassessed the situation and recognised that there is a potentially dangerous scenario.

"I hope the work is now able to be completed as soon as possible."

Ms Davies was disappointed by the lack of action and said that the cars have also made the pavement broken and uneven, which can also cause issues for children and residents.

The borough councillor had also raised Ms Davies' worries with the county council, which is in charge of highways, but to no avail.

Last week, Cllr Kreidewolf was told that the council is reassessing the situation, and will make a plan accordingly.
