Plans have been submitted to turn a former guest house where a 37-year-old was murdered into a 10-bed house of multiple occupation.
The plans, relating to the former Beaumont Guest House at 312 Norwich Road in Ipswich, would see the house change into an HMO across all three floors.
Applicant Millennium Investments 2000 says there would be no changes to the property, which has previously been fully refurbished considering the requirements for a house of multiple occupancy.
The property already has 10 bedrooms and there is enough space for five cars to park. This will not change say the plans.
There will also be no alterations to the external property and no added buildings are proposed.
Included in the submitted documents is a crime prevention statement, highlight the work that would be undertaken to reduce the risk of crime in the area.
This includes potentially installing CCTV at the property, improving the lighting at the property and all windows accessible on the ground floor feature restrictors and lock to restrict access.
Also included in the crime prevention statement, was how many arrests were made in the Whitton and Castle Hill area of Ipswich, including Norwich Road.
Over 12 months from September 2023 to August 2024, there were 947 crimes, with violence and sexual offences being the most prominent crime.
37-year-old Steven Povey was murdered at the guest house in July 2021 after being battered "numerous times" in the head and neck.
Emergency services were called to the house following the attack but Mr Povey died of his injuries.
His murderer, Warren Atkinson, who was also a resident at the guest house, was sentenced to life in 2022.
Ipswich Borough Council will discuss the plans in due course.
