An empty office building behind the Old Cattle Market bus station in the centre of town could soon be transformed into four new homes under new plans.

An application has been submitted to Ipswich Borough Council to convert the vacant Easton House in Turret Lane into flats.

The building has stood empty for several years.

The ground floor of the building is currently used for car parking, and floor plans submitted to the council show that this would continue to be the case. A rack for eight bicycles would also be added.

Two flats would be located on each of the upper two floors.

Three of the flats will have one bedroom, as well as a combined kitchen and living area and a bathroom. One of the flats located on the first floor will have a second bedroom.

Several attempts have been made in the last few years to create further housing in Turret Lane, which runs behind the Old Cattle Market bus station.

In June last year, an application to convert the vacant Knapton Court building into nine flats was rejected. In September that year, a further application to convert the former officer building at 2a into two homes was also rejected

Ipswich Borough Council sets an automatic eight-week target date for a decision on all applications it receives. This application has been given a target date of January 2.
