The Walk in Ipswich to host Christmas Market on December 1

The Walk is set to host its first ever Christmas Market on December 1, with at least 17 stalls to pitch up along the street and in empty shops.

The event has been organised by the owners of Threads for All, Will Hamer and Jenny Needham, who wanted to add to the Christmas activities already planned in town. 

Mr Hamer said: "We thought about it early on as we wanted to add extra offerings in the town and the community at Christmas time.

"When we heard that The Saints Market wasn't happening this year it made us decide to definitely do it.

"It's also a great way to show people that The Walk isn't empty anymore and the majority of the units are now filling up."

Stalls will spread across The Walk and empty units will be used for pop up shops for the day.

People are able to get a variety of items from the market including homemade art, crafts, gifts, fashion for adults and children, pet accessories, preservatives and a mulled wine stand.

All stall pitch fees will also be going to charity.

The event will be run on Sunday, December 1 which is the same day that there is an artisan market happening on the Cornhill.

The annual Saints Market was due to happen on November 24, but due to Ipswich Town's home match against Manchester United in the Premier League, the event had to be cancelled.

The event, which has been running for 13 years, decided it was more realistic to return in 2025 after the match was moved to Sunday.

Cathy Frost runs the Love One gift shop in St Peter's Street, and has been one of the main organisers of the Saints event, said: "On one level it is a bit disappointing but it's fantastic for the town that we've got Manchester United coming and that we're in the Premier League. We just have to get on with it."
