Heroes and villains descended on Framlingham Castle last week as the 12th Century monument opened its gates for a series of half-term activities.

Throughout the week, children learnt how to attack and defend a castle, heard stories of chivalry and heroism and were told of the gruesome punishments they could face for certain crimes in the period.

Re-enactors Griffin Historical were on hand to help bring the history to life, teaching sword skills used in battle and how knights would don their armours.

Amanda Wilkins, from English Heritage, said: “We have had fabulous feedback.

“The weather has been great. Everyone seems to have had a wonderful time.”
