Ipswich: Morland Primary School rated 'Good' by Ofsted

Morland CE Primary School in Ipswich is 'Good' in all areas following an inspection in September.

The now headteacher at the school, Mr John Crane, was one of the inspectors when the school was last visited in 2017, where they rated 'inadequate'.

He said: "Relief was the initial reaction and we are absolutely delighted.

"It is great that all the hard work that's been done has been recognised.

"This has been three years of hard work through the toughest of times with Covid and home learning and everything else that has been going on.

"Parents are very pleased too.

"They are pleased that what they see and have always thought that we are a 'Good' school, has been recognised by experts."

Mr Crane has been headteacher at Morland for the past three years but is also still an Ofsted inspector.

Mr Crane continued: "I had completely forgotten that I had been here.

"I saw the job advertised and you do forget because you go and visit and inspect."

The report said that 'pupils like the school' and 'they enjoy learning and playing'.

It also said that they feel safe, and they 'participate enthusiastically and listen carefully to their teachers and to each other.'

Leaders at the school were also praised, saying the curriculum is 'broad and ambitious' and all teachers receive regular training.

Despite the 'Good' rating, Mr Crane has said Covid was a challenge for the school, and set them back a year.

He continued: "To get a good judgement nowadays you need to have an effective curriculum.

"You're teaching all the different subjects and especially reading has got to be effective.

"You can't implement change that needs to be done if you haven't got the staff in school because they were working from home, and you can't develop a curriculum if you can't get everybody in the same room.

"It really did make it hard, but through hard graft, dedication, commitment and finding a way around new technology, we got there."
