A cat was shot in the head in a residential street in Needham Market.
The incident happened in Morris Way in the mid Suffolk town at some point between Sunday, December 4 and the following Tuesday.
Suffolk police said the pet is recovering but the owner has been left distressed by the incident.
Police did not confirm what weapon was used in the incident.
Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference number 37/78047/22.
