The "most financially vulnerable" in Ipswich could see council tax contributions wiped under new proposals.
If approved, the plans would see the maximum reduction in Council Tax increased from 95% to 100%.
Income Bands determining how much council tax households should pay would also be established for those on Universal Credit - requiring annual adjustments to take into account the impact of inflation.
Cllr Bryony Rudkin, Labour representative for the Bridge ward and portfolio holder for communities and sport, submitted the proposals in a bid to alleviate financial pressures for residents and to save the Council money "on printing, postage and officer time."
Her report concluded: "Financial pressures brought about by the current cost of living crisis make this the right time for the Council to offer additional financial support to its residents.
"The existing scheme does not work well for customers in receipt of UC and both proposals... will significantly alleviate the pressures of financial uncertainty for this group of customers."
The proposals will be discussed at an Ipswich Borough Council meeting next Wednesday.
