Student protests at an Ipswich school have gone viral on social media, with pupils protesting over school rules surrounding toilet breaks.

Students at Stoke High School called for permission to be given to go to the toilets during lessons, mainly for girls on their periods.

Around 40 to 50 students gathered around the English toilets and started chanting "we want rights".

They also refused to go to lessons and began walking around school and the field.

Footage of this was posted on multiple TikTok accounts, with one receiving over 335,000 views.

One Year 11 commented: "I was involved in the protest and have been excluded from school for five days.

"Around 20-30 other students were also excluded.

"In my opinion, other students and I feel like we have been disrespected and stripped of our basic human rights to be able to use a bathroom.

"I am proud that students were able to come together and stand up for what they think is right."

A spokesperson for Stoke High School said: "Following a growing social media trend amongst young people across the country, a group of students were involved in a protest in school on Friday afternoon (February 24).

"To ensure that this did not disrupt the learning of the majority of our students not involved, we took the decision to send a small number of those students home for the remainder of the day, and have since spoken individually with parents/carers.

"Since the events, we have met with students to discuss the concerns raised.

"At our academy, students are encouraged to express themselves and to play an active role in our school community.

"We have a number of initiatives to ensure their voices are heard and that they have the opportunity to shape school life, including our school parliament.

"We will carry on supporting students to make the most of these channels, ensuring our academy continues to flourish."
