Plans for 147 new homes, parking and facilities in north Ipswich have been approved by the council.

The application that was recently granted by Ipswich Borough Council is part of phase two of the Henley Gate development, which comprises of 1,100 homes, a community centre, sports facilities and a primary school.

Developer Barratt Homes' project was first granted permission in 2020.

The development is located on the northern fringes of Ipswich.

The latest plans to receive the go-ahead include 11 two-bedroom flats, 16 two-bedroom houses, 67 three-bedroom houses, 44 four-bedroom houses and nine five-bedroom houses.

There is no element of affordable housing outlined.

The residents will be provided with a mixture of on-plot car parking and parking courtyards, compromising a total of 399 spaces, including visitors' parking.

Secure storage for almost 300 cycles is also to be provided.

Public open space is set to include landscaped borders, green route connections, swales and a central area with attenuation basin, allotments and a local area of play.

The homes will be designed in line with the 'fabric first' approach involving maximising the performance of the building fabric to reduce running costs for homeowners, improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emission.

The site does not contain any designated or non-designated heritage assets and does not lie within a conservation area of the town.

Ipswich Borough Council recently launched its Housing Delivery Action Plan 2022, which sets out the priority for delivering 8,280 new homes throughout the borough by 2036.

The council has recently approved a planning application for 26 new affordable homes along Hawke Road and Holbrook Road.

The new homes will be ready for council tenants in 2025 and will compromise four one-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom flats, eight two-bedroom houses, eight three-bedroom houses and four four-bedroom houses.
