'Nottingham Knockers' have reportedly been targeting homes in Ipswich.
A warning has been issued after traders were seen calling at homes in Foxhall Road in the town on Thursday.
According to Suffolk Trading Standards, the individuals claim to have been in prison or are on a youth offending scheme.
They try to sell household items at high prices.
A spokesman for the authority said: "They may still be in the area, or could have moved on elsewhere in the county."
