Planned roadworks are set to resume on the Orwell Bridge outside Ipswich this week.

Disaster struck on Friday when a broken-down inspection vehicle shut the eastbound carriageway for much of the day.

Traffic was left queuing as far back as Claydon on the A14, while drivers experienced chaos around Ipswich as they attempted to divert through the town.

It came as part of a series of closures on the bridge while inspections are carried out.

National Highways confirmed the planned roadworks would not resume on Friday night after the significant disruption.

However, the work will now take place this week instead.

Closures will be in place between junction 56 to junction 57 from 9pm on Monday to 5am on Tuesday morning.

According to one.network, closures will also be in force on Tuesday between 9pm and 5am on Wednesday.
