From discount stores to high street giants, Ipswich has lost a number of stores in its town centre this year.
Here are five businesses that closed for good in the town during 2023.
1. Wilko
The high street giant closed its doors for the final time in October after multiple bids to save the retailer fell through.
The homeware retailer announced it was going into administration in August which left 12,500 jobs at risk.
Rivals Poundland, B&M, The Range and Home Bargains were reportedly among the firms interested in parts of the Wilko business but the Ipswich store was not purchased.
2. Superdry
The clothes store in the Buttermarket shopping centre closed down in June.
It came after Superdry announced plans to cut spending by £35million due to cost of living pressures, shipping delays and poor weather decreasing demand for new lines.
3. Accessorize
The clothes and accessories shop in Tavern Street was cleared out and emptied in June.
The shop became one of many empty buildings that needed filling in the town centre.
4. One Below
The discount shop in Tavern Street closed down earlier this year.
Signs saying "Everything must go" and a 25% off sale was taking place in September.
Shoezone has since moved into the former One Below building after searching for a bigger premises.
5. Poundland
The discount store in Carr Street closed down in March after the lease of the building expired.
Closing down signs appeared in the windows of the shop in late January.
Speaking ahead of the closure a spokesman for Poundland said: "We’re sad to be closing our store on Carr Street because the lease is expiring.
"We love being in Ipswich and will, of course, actively look at other suitable sites in the area."
A few months later a new Poundland store opened at the Copdock Interchange retail park.
