Writing scrawled over new Rushmere St Andrew Tree Trail

This Saturday will see the launch of the Enchanted Tree Trail, which will set off from outside Tower Hall in Rushmere St Andrew.

The trail has been put together by Jason Alexander, curator of the ‘Rubbish Walks’ litter picks, along with Rushmere St Andrew Parish Council.

Mr Alexander said that so far, the trail has generated “a real buzz” in the community.

This is despite the fact that a trail marker was graffitied on Monday, with three people daubing their names on the wooden stump.

“It is a bit disappointing that somebody thought it was OK to do that,” said Mr Alexander. “But we managed to sort it and we’ve had no other issues.

“The rest of the trail is OK, and we’re still adding the finishing touches.”

The premise of the trail, Mr Alexander explained, is that the woods where the trail takes place is the remains of the last enchanted forest in the land.

Perfect for families, the trail will include a variety of clues and characters to keep a look out for, including a ‘wishing tree’ and the homes of fairies.

“The idea is to get people to get outside together in the fresh air, and enjoy the green spaces we have around the parish,” said Mr Alexander.
