Open air Eid Al Fitr hosted in Christchurch Park in Ipswich

Eid Al Fitr Salaah is the congregational prayer that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, and lasts for three days.

It has been called a historic moment, with organisers hoping residents from all backgrounds will join in the "joyous ocassion". 

Last year a group brought an idea to Councillor Ruman Muhith, Ipswich and Suffolk's first Muslim councillor, to perform the Eid Salaah in an open space.

This has cultural significance for the community as performing in open spaces makes the prayer align with the Sunnah, emphasising communal worship and connection with nature.

With Cllr Muhith's support, the Eid In The Park Select Committee was formed.

He said: "The forthcoming Eid Al Fitr Salaah represents a historic moment for Ipswich, underscoring our community's unity and spirit of inclusivity.

"We look forward to welcoming residents from all backgrounds to join us in celebrating this joyous occasion."

The committee garnered support from local sponsors, including 405 Cabs Limited, Baba Z Barbers, and a contribution from a local businessman.

They opted to not seek funding from either council, to ensure the event is sustainable and independent of taxpayer funds.

The day for this event is still yet to be decided as it could be held on either April 9 or 10, depending on the moon's sighting on April 8 and will be carried out by Shaykh Masum Shaheed. 

Eid Al Fitr Salaah will be held at all four of the town's mosques and proceeds from the event will be donated.

Donations on the day will also be allocated to the local charity Suffolk Refugee Support, as the committee believes in supporting vulnerable individuals within the region.
