A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary following an incident which resulted in a nine-hour stand-off with police.
Police were called to reports of a burglary in progress at Carats Jewellers in the Buttermarket street at 4.35am on Thursday.
The man then allegedly climbed onto the roof of the premises, before climbing over several other businesses.
Emergency services spent more than nine hours attempting to negotiate with the man to come down, with surrounding roads cordoned off.
Cordons were lifted shortly before 1.40pm.
The suspect was initially detained and taken to hospital as a precaution.
He has since been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently being questioned by detectives.
