An Ipswich man has been jailed for stealing a vehicle and stealing 12 parcels.

Antonio Wells, of Bishops Hill in the town, was sentenced at a hearing at Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich on March 6.

Wells was charged with being the initial taker in an aggravated vehicle taking incident, which involved taking a Ford Transit without the owner's consent, and causing damage of less than £5,000 to the vehicle.

The offence took place on December 28 last year in Ipswich.

The 41-year-old indicated a guilty plea in January.

For the offence, he was disqualified from driving for 24 months and handed a prison sentence of 16 weeks for aggravated features, which included how the vehicle was deliberately damaged, Wells attempted to cover up his actions, and testing positive for cocaine.

Wells was also charged with theft by finding on the same day, involving the theft of 12 parcels belonging to others in Ipswich, to which he also pleaded guilty.

For this offence, he was handed a four-week prison sentence, to be served concurrent to the first sentence.
