Drivers are being warned that a south Ipswich road off the A14 will be closed later this month. 

According to Suffolk Highways, Wherstead Road will be closed between Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23 to allow for the movement of abnormal loads. 

While the road is closed, a short diversion route will be in place that will take drivers onto the A14.

A spokesperson said: "There will be delays from the early hours of Saturday morning, through to approximately 6pm Sunday evening.

"Traffic management will be in place for the duration, including intermittent road closures. "

Suffolk Highways has confirmed that footpath running along the road will remain open during the works. 

It comes as a stretch of Cliff Lane between the junction with Clapgate Lane and the Margaret Catchpole pub will be closed for three weeks. 

Ipswich Buses has confirmed routes will be affected by the closure. 

Route 2 buses will follow Dereham Avenue, Medway Road, Severn Road, Wye Road and Clapgate Lane for phase one of the roadworks. 

For phase two, Route 2 will divert along Lee Road, Severn Road, Wye Road and Clapgate Lane before returning to the normal route.
