Drivers are being warned that a south Ipswich road off the A14 will be closed intermittently and traffic management will take place for four consecutive weekends for the movement of abnormal loads.

Suffolk Highways said Wherstead Road, which provides access to the A14 from south Ipswich, will be closed intermittently on Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday, June 22 to Sunday, July 14.

This comes after it was confirmed that the road will be closed between Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23.

The days the road will be affected are Saturday, June 22 to Sunday, June 23, Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, June 30, Saturday, July 6 to Sunday, July 7 and Saturday, July 13 to Sunday, July 14.

A spokesperson said traffic management will take place from the early hours of the Saturday mornings through to about 6pm on the Sunday evenings.

Access to The Strand will be maintained via a short diversion on the A14 and A137.

Meanwhile, access for residents and business owners in Wherstead Road will be maintained via Hawes Street.
