Eid in the Park celebrated in Christchurch Park in Ipswich

People came together in Christchurch Park for the second 'Eid in the Park' event - this time marking Eid al-Adha.

While the sun was shining, people were greeting one another with the phrase "Eid Mubarak" before laying their prayer mats and praying as one on the lawn outside Christchurch Mansion.

Eid al-Adha is the festival of sacrifice, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.

Allowing Muslims to mark Eid al-Adha in the park means that they were able to align with the Sunnah of performing Eid prayer in congregation, connecting with friends and family.

Public lectures on the subject of Sacrifices were read to those in attendance in Turkish, Bangla, Kurdish and English before the Congregational Prayer (Jama'ah) was read.

Ipswich borough councillor Ruman Muhith, a member of the Eid in the Park Select Committee, addressed those in attendance.

He said: "This is a joyous occasion for us to come together in celebration and unity.

"Thank you all for your presence and support, may Allah bless you and your families."

Also in attendance was Ipswich Borough Council leader Neil MacDonald, who said: "It's great to see so many people here.

"This is a beautiful venue, with so much nature around us and the open air brings fresh air and something special to an event like this.

"Bringing us all together in a shared commitment to the communities we live in."

Jack Abbott, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Ipswich at the upcoming general election, also addressed those in attendance.

He said: "I'm privileged to be invited into your Mosques to attend your events and other special occasions.

"I'm always struck by your generosity, your selflessness, not just for yourselves and for your brothers and sisters, but for everyone across Ipswich.

"Your educational supports, your charity, your innovation, entrepreneurship and ambition for our town, your compassion. Thank you for everything you do and continue to do for our town. We are all incredibly grateful."
