A deer died after falling into the water at Ipswich Waterfront, it has been confirmed.
Emergency services were called to Ipswich Waterfront at 11.09pm on Thursday to reports of a deer being spotted in the water at the marina.
Four Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service crews from the Princes Street station nearby in the town attempted to save the deer, but it drowned.
The animal was then removed from the water.
A spokesperson for the fire service said it was unaware of how the deer ended up at the Waterfront.
Fire crews stopped the rescue at just before midnight and left the area shortly after.
A spokesman for Associated British Ports, who run Beacon Marina, said: “ABP is aware that a deer was found in the Wet Dock, otherwise known as Ipswich Beacon Marina, late on Thursday night.
"This is, unfortunately, something that happens from time to time with wildlife in and around docks and other bodies of water.
"ABP is saddened by this incident and extends our thanks to Suffolk Fire & Rescue for their swift response and assistance. ABP remains committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all wildlife around our ports.”
