A man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting a fugitive who was wanted on child sex charges.

Daryl Taylor, 33, of no fixed abode but from the Ipswich area, absconded from police officers last Sunday.

Taylor went on the run while receiving treatment at Ipswich Hospital, prompting a police manhunt.

A police operation took place in Rendlesham shortly before 7pm on Wednesday where he was arrested by officers from Suffolk police's Support Unit.

He appeared at Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Friday where he was remanded to appear at Ipswich Crown Court for a further court hearing on Friday, September 13.

Superintendent Andy Martin said after the arrest: “I want to thank the officers and staff involved in arresting Daryl Taylor this evening for their unwavering and relentless efforts in locating him.

“It is right and proper that he now serves the term of his recall and be presented to the courts on the charges against him."

It has now emerged that a man was arrested in Ipswich on Thursday on suspicion of assisting an offender.

He was taken to Martlesham police investigation centre for questioning and released under investigation.

The suspect was also released under investigation for two other offences – theft of a motor vehicle and being concerned in the supply of drugs.  

He was also remanded on suspicion of failing to appear before court.

Two other men were arrested alongside Taylor on Wednesday on suspicion of assisting an offender and have since been released under investigation.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone who is aware of any suspicious activity relating to vehicles on Sunday, August 11.

Anyone who has dash cam footage between 9.45pm and 10.15pm in the Heath Road area of Ipswich on Sunday is asked to contact Suffolk police, quoting crime reference number 37/45508/24.
