More students around Ipswich have been able to celebrate their hard work after opening their GCSEs last week.

Westbourne Academy, who's alumni include former Ipswich Town midfielder Keiron Dyer, achieved exceptional results. 

This year saw improvements in grades in English, sustained good grades in maths and an exceptionally high pass rate in biology, chemistry and physics.

The school also saw improvements in religious studies and DT (design and technology).

One student, Arash K, achieved eight grade 9s, and two grade 8s. 

Another student Alicja S, managed to pass every subject and achieved a grade 9 despite missing most of year 10.

Marianne Woodhouse, acting principal of the Suffolk school, said: "On behalf of everyone at Westbourne Academy I would like to congratulate our students for achieving such fantastic GCSE results, in what has been a far from easy time at high school for them.

"Their achievements are a testament to the effort they have put in over the past five years."

Chantry Academy, in Mallard Way, also had successes on GCSE day. 

One student, Nicole Ali, achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, four grade 7s, a grade 6 and a grade 5.

Alessia Mirea also did well achieving one grade 9, four grade 8s, three grade 7s and a grade 6.

"We are incredibly proud of the class of 2024 and their accomplishments, which open up a range of exciting post-16 opportunities including A-levels and apprenticeships.
