Part of the A14 was closed after smoke was seen coming from a broken-down van.
Long queues were forming in the eastbound carriageway of the A14 near to the Copdock Interchange on Thursday morning.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said at about 8.35am officers spotted a broken-down van with smoke coming from it on the A14.
The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
On Wednesday evening drivers were left facing long delays on the A14 near Ipswich after a vehicle broke down.
National Highways closed one lane while recovery of the vehicle took place.
