A 50-year-old man from Ipswich has been jailed for 12 weeks after assaulting a man in Colchester.
Daniel Minns, who is of Grove Lane in the Suffolk town, assaulted the man in the north Essex city on July 15 this year.
This was in breach of a suspended sentence, a court listing confirmed.
Minns appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court charged with a single count of assault by beating, to which he pleaded guilty.
A court document said that a prison sentence was justified because “the defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders, because the offence was committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence”.
No compensation payment was requested because of the limited means of the defendant and because of the immediate jail term that was imposed.
