Organisers of an event to remember part of Ipswich’s history will continue to run it so long as it continues to remain popular.
The Ipswich Airport Association held their latest reunion event on Saturday, September 28, at the Transport Museum.
Former workers and people of all ages were able to reminisce about times gone by with photos and memorabilia on show.
Attendees included former flying instructors and parachutists.
Nigel Roberts, who used to work at the airport, said: “It was a great day for it. The weather was really nice and we had quite a few people come along.”
In its heyday, the airport was home to a number of flying schools and a popular parachute centre.
The airport opened its doors in 1930, with a hard fought campaign to try and keep it open, with flying continuing for a further year after it was officially closed in 1996.
While the airport has been shut since 1996, bulldozers moved in to demolish the terminal building in 2005 to make way for the Ravenswood housing estate.
Mr Roberts added while the event continues to remain popular, then they “will continue for the next couple of years".
