The family of Peter Lister, who ran Grove Sprays in Ipswich's Cavendish Street for many years, are thanking the community for helping them throw a joyful, celebratory event he would have been proud of.
For many years, Mr Lister hosted annual events to raise money for cancer research, particularly the Woolverstone Wing at Ipswich Hospital, which cared for him after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer at age 40.
With vol-au-vents, a raffle and a disco, these became great celebrations – and Mr Lister got a real buzz out of raising as much money as possible.
After Mr Lister passed away in July last year, his family were determined that these events would not die with him.
On July 20, the first anniversary of Mr Lister's death, his wife, Thelma, and daughters, Marie and Ella, welcomed the community to Henley Community Centre.
An incredible evening was had by all, with a disco provided by JG Events, free of charge, food provided by The Ration Box, and a raffle which included the tantalising prize of a television, donated by Steve Smith.
A grand total of £4,000 was raised, which was split between Ipswich's St Elizabeth Hospice and the Woolverstone Wing.
Mr Lister's family would like to thank everyone who generously supported this event in his memory.
