A woman from Sproughton has been banned from owning animals for the next five years for the way she treated her cat and dog.
Andreia Filip Rocha Viana appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich facing a charge of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and failing to ensure the welfare of an animal in her care.
According to court documents, Viana, who is of Chantry Park View in the village near Ipswich, was responsible for a brindle and white cross-bred dog called Lorde.
The documents stated that Lorde was left alone for 14 days.
Viana also failed to provide Lorde with adequate nutrition and left the dog in an “environment contaminated by faeces and with hazardous items”.
She also failed to provide Lorde with the appropriate companionship or socialisation. The writer of the document noted that Lorde was “unable to exhibit normal behaviour as left for two weeks”.
Viana was also the owner of a male tabby cat known as Tico, to whom the charge of unnecessary suffering relates.
Documents stated that between June 21, 2022 and January 19, 2023, Viana caused suffering to Tico by “failing to provide required veterinary treatment regarding severe dental disease”, knowing that this failure was likely to cause him pain.
Viana pleaded guilty to both charges.
An order was made under Section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, disqualifying Viana from owning, dealing with, keeping or participating in the keeping of animals for a period of five years.
She has also been ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months, and will complete up to 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.
