A loving uncle is ready to embark on his toughest challenge yet in support of his niece diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder.

Daryl Peck, from Ipswich, is set to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, and says he will once again draw strength to climb the highest mountain in Africa.

The 31-year-old will undertake the challenge over 10 to 12 days this month, doing it all to raise money for Rett UK, a charity supporting those with the rare Rett Syndrome.

His niece, Tiffany, is believed to be one of three people in Suffolk with the syndrome, a neurodevelopment disorder which causes a slowing of development, loss of functional use of the hands and slowed brain and head growth.

Mr Peck has been training since May for this challenge, saying: "My training has gone well, I recently walked to to Waldringfield and back to get the miles in so I feel ready for my challenge.

"Tiffany recently fractured her femur and spent three nights in hospital, but just like most things she does she was so brave and kept a smile on her face - something I'll try and do up Kilimanjaro."

This challenge is all part of a large fundraising effort to raise money for the charity.

Since starting last year, he has raised £20,000 through raffles on Facebook, auctions, as well as charity football matches.

A funday for Tiffany's sixth birthday raised more than £2,000 and was supported by more than 20 stallholders.

The 31-year-old ran an ultramarathon last October and has been hosting other events to help raise funds.

Mr Peck continued: "Tiffany continues to make us so proud as a family, I’ve met so many lovely families via my group and the strength every person with Rett Syndrome shows on a daily basis is the reason I’m pushing myself to climb Mount Kilimanjaro."
