Two Suffolk cancer charities are sharing more than £16,000 raised at quiz night at Venue 16 on the edge of Ipswich.

Cancer Support Suffolk and the cancer wellbeing centre at Ipswich Hospital will share the money raised at Sunday's night quiz.

It was organised by Martlesham couple Kirsty and Simon Jay. Kirsty was treated at the hospital for cervical cancer in 2005 and then for bowel cancer a year ago.

Kirsty and Simon said "We are truly humbled by the support we received from everyone involved.

"This event wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing sponsors, the donors of raffle and auction prizes, our incredible volunteers, staff at venue 16 and of course, all the quiz-goers who turned out in such large numbers.

"Together, we are making a difference in the fight against cancer."

Sandra Gosney from the hospital expressed her heartfelt thanks to Kirsty and Simon for organising an amazing fundraising evening.

She added: “The support our centres offer would not be possible without charitable funding and the generosity of people like Kirsty and Simon and events such as this fantastic evening.

“Our Cancer Wellbeing Centres staff aim to ensure that anyone diagnosed with cancer, undergoing treatment or living with and beyond cancer has access to support and information from trained professionals and access to resources that make a difference to health and healing.”

And CSS chief executive Mark Murphy said: “I’ve been to plenty of quiz nights in my time, but this one was unbelievable. The love and support for what Kirsty and Simon have been through really shone through.

"The amount raised was truly incredible. We’ll spend that money very wisely supporting more cancer patients and their families, thank you Kirsty and Simon for making a difference”
