The countdown to Christmas has begun as details for a 'bigger and brighter' light switch-on event have been revealed.
Ipswich Borough Council has announced that from 4pm to 7.30pm on Sunday, November 17, in the centre of Ipswich on the Cornhill, this year's Christmas lights will be turned on.
Suffolk Sound will be leading the festivities as Official Media Partners for the event with support from Ipswich Town Football Club as defender Leif Davis and chairman and CEO Mark Ashton will also be present.
There will also be a special performance from the cast of Ipswich Regent Theatre’s Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime from 6.15pm and more live music entertainment throughout the event.
The Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.45pm by the mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Elango Elavalakan.
Councillor Jane Riley, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for culture and customers, says: "The Christmas lights switch-on is always a magical time for Ipswich, and we’re thrilled to welcome the community back for this year’s celebration.
"It's a wonderful opportunity to come together, celebrate our town, and light up the festive season with joy and excitement for all ages."
There will also be a special Blue Badge drive through event on Sunday, December 1 from 6pm to 9pm, with more details to be announced.
