Supper Club in Ipswich able to reopen after closure notice

Supper Club, in Tacket Street, has been allowed to reopen by Suffolk Constabulary superintendent Andrew Martin.

A new notice was posted at midday on October 22, two hours before the temporary closure notice was due to come to an end.

The bar was initially hit with a closure notice after three men were arrested after officers were called to the venue at around 3.40am on October 20 following reports of an altercation in progress.

The cancellation notice reads: "I am no longer satisfied that Section 76 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 applies to the whole of the specified premises and hereby authorise the cancellation of the closure notice.

"The original closure notice will cease with immediate effect. This cancellation includes any extension or variation of the original notice."

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, assault (ABH) and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and a 31-year-old man arrested, also on suspicion of affray.

All three were bailed with them to return to the police in November.

Suffolk Constabulary said that they would work closely with Ipswich Borough Council's Licensing team to "investigate this accordingly."

On the new notice, the final paragraph states: "The magistrates' court hearing referred to in the original closure notice will not take place, however, this cancellation does not affect other judicial process that may be relevant to these premises."
