A café on Norwich Road in Ipswich is facing a review of its licence following a large disturbance.

Ipswich Borough Council's licensing and regulatory sub-committee will meet next Friday, to discuss Suffolk Constabulary's request to review Café Nos Terra's licence.

Suffolk Constabulary is asking for an "immediate suspension" of its licence after reports were made that the cafe had become a hub for crime and disorder reports.

Supt Andrew Martin made the report to the council following a large disturbance involving 10 people in Norwich Road on October 5 which is currently being investigated by police.

The police had previously arrested four people at the cafe on October 1 after executing a search warrant at the premises under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

During the search, they found numerous bags of cannabis, cocaine, two mobile phones, digital scales and two steak knives.

The police have asked for the cafe run by Miss Carra Alexandra Melo De Sousa to be shut down.

Police licensing officer Sharon Betts-Palmer said: "It is unusual to request a summer review, however, constabulary seem to have run out of options in that there are ongoing issues with the use and supply of drugs at the premises.

"The serious disturbances on October 5, 2024, luckily did not result in injury of any seriousness but it was deemed necessary by a superintendent that a closure notice was issued.

"However, unless action is taken swiftly it can only be a matter of time before someone comes to serious harm either through the use of violence or through consumption of drugs."
