An Ipswich man has been jailed for attempting to steal from Morrisons.
Richard McCleary, who is of no fixed abode but from the Ipswich area, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on September 30.
The 36-year-old was charged with burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal, having entered the Morrisons Daily store in Meredith Road as a trespasser the previous day.
According to court documents, McCleary was also found in possession of cocaine.
McCleary indicated guilty pleas to both offences and was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
According to court documents, the justification for this sentence was that McCleary has a “poor history of offending”.
Previously, Gavin Dighton of Fonnereau Road had been jailed by the court for three offences of burglary.
The 45-year-old, who was described by court documents as a “professional criminal”, had stolen from the India Gate restaurant in Laburnum Close, the Co-op store in Sheldrake Drive and a Penalty Store.
He was sentenced to 12 months custodial time, of which four months will be served in prison.
